Hey, my brothers and sisters of the Weber world, thought I'd chime in and ask the question above despite not being a technical barbecue question. I ran a quick search to see if this has been posted yet, but didn't see anything so here goes.
Any grocery chains running decent wing sales this year where you are? I tried to Google it, but couldn't find anything relevant for 2021. I have a Food Lion, Kroger*, Food City and, of course, a Wal-Mart nearby. *Kroger is actually an hour away, but I'm willing to drive. There's a couple of local meat joints 'round here, but they aren't running any sales on wings, especially at the amount I'm going after.
Every year, I deep-fry about 60-70 lbs. of chicken wings for a get-together with friends for the Super Bowl. Usually, I stock up in the preceding two months, because Food Lion used to be great about marking down wings, and I'd buy them for $1.59-1.99/lb. on the regular! I would cut off the tips, separate the drum/flat and freeze until the day before the game to prepare. However, I didn't for this year, because I've been busy with mundane life endeavors and all that jazz, and Food Lion didn't run the same manager markdowns that I dearly miss. Wings are usually sold at $2.99/lb. there regularly, and recently they have been only marked down to $2.29/lb, which is alright, I guess, but I wanted to reach out to find out if I could find better deals elsewhere. I don't know what their promo for the week will be until Wednesday.
In the above paragraph, I was rambling on about fresh wings, but I'm fine with buying frozen wings, too, if need be.
I know the topic is a sorry fit for this subforum since I'm talking about deep-fried wings, but hey, I'm sure there are a bunch of folks on here who are throwing down some smoked or grilled wings for the Super Bowl, and this might assist someone else in their search for a good sale, too, I hope.
Just to add something relevant to the topic of barbecue since I'm posting this on this subforum: I'm throwing down a big batch of poppers on the WSM! Always a classic. There we go.
