Any players? I've played a few dozen games over the years is all, but I've been working on it a bunch lately. I got some training videos, joined a website, bought a few versions of software...............and I'm still no good :)

I find it interesting when the videos say "this example is from 1896" or after WW2 etc. This is probably just another good way to waste some time....another thing I'll never quite master.

I used to play against my teens ~15-20 yr ago. Usually won. Played against my 5 yr old grandson Josh about 4 mo ago. Wifey said "supper time" and we didn't finish. Luckily,Josh didn't understand the anxious/strained look on my face. All I got was "Whats wrong papa?" Going back to bridge. Its easier.

I use to play fairly often years back, I felt I could hold my own with the majority of the people I played against with a few exceptions and the one that kicked my butt the most was only about 14 yrs old, he could take me out in 3 or 4 moves, by the time I got his tricks down, everybody knew them ... I haven't played in better than 10 years or backgammon either.

I have no natural ability to this game :)

I've got 3 programs + the website, & so far I like Chessmaster the best (Grandmaster edition, PC version, from 2007)..... The runners up are Chess King 4, & Fritz Chess 14 which are supposed to be more advanced.

Chessmasters depth is really surprising--- I've also got 3 books on the subject.

I've only won one game out of ~5 (I've only been able to talk 2 people into playing), and we were drinking as much as playing.

Many years ago I played in high school. I found out quickly that chess is not my game.
Later in life my 8 year old nephew beat me easily, further reinforcing that it was still not my game.
