Charmglow Party Host HEJ 1T

Just picked up this old timer. Looks to be around 1970 Charmglow Party Host HEJ 1T. I'd been thinking about picking it up for a while now. Most of the parts are actually still available. I was expecting the H burner to be thin SS and needing to be replaced but it is actually a heavy cast iron burner that works perfectly with just a little surface rust. I'll replace all the racks and the ceramic briquettes and maybe incorporate a shelf or table. I'll add a temp gauge for sure. Not sure when I'll get back to this one. I'm in the middle of my old broilmaster restoration right now and after that possibly one of my Genesis 1000s before this one. I really like old things that are still going strong 50 plus years later. Not sure if others here will appreciate it but I thought I'd test the waters and see. If it catches interest here I'll post a restoration thread when I get to it.

Came with a full tank of Propane and a heavy duty cover.

How do you light those dinosaurs, just throw a match in with the gas on? I like that it is a cart mounted model instead of post mounted. The first house I owned was built in the 60's and had a similar grill in the backyard but mounted on a post. I already had a Genesis 1000 so the grill went, along with the TV antenna on the roof.

I guess you could. I just hold a lighter underneath the cookbox or I think on the side down low. Through a factory hole.

Wow Josh! That's a really cool looking old timer. Is there some sort of cast placard on top of the lid or is that just some sort of decoration rectangle? The burner looks massive and in good shape. Cool looking decorative dowel handles and frame!

There were a lot of these type of grills back in the day. Most were very similar looking and shared pretty much the same design traits. The familiar bow tie or H burner along with a tray for lava rocks or ceramic briquettes. Weber started with these designs when they came up with their own take on a gas grill in 1985. Very well made in the USA like most things then, these early gas grills offer an interesting look at gas grilling before Weber hit the scene. It is interesting that some of these early brands, like broilmaster for example, continue to make grills today.

I’d love to follow along a resto thread on this!
I wasn't sure if anyone would be interested but it sounds like at least some people are interested so I'll post a restoration thread here then.

This is a Weber site and I have been branching out so I'm not sure how welcome that is. I still love vintage Webers. just enjoying expanding my knowledge and experience in other vintage grill.
