charcoal

I just cleaned my WSM before my next smoke. There were some leftover coals that looked new so I fished them out for my next cook. Is this "taboo" or do coals that remain and not completely ashed still usable to cook with?

Just wondering on everyone's experiences.

Thanks

Wayne,
You can reuse the charcoal. I do it all the time. After a cook I will close the vents and normally have some briquettes left. I use those briquettes in the chimney to start the fire for the next time.

The only time I don't like to use the unburned charcoal in the next cook is when it was used for cooking direct, such as chicken cooked without the water pan. Even that may not be an issue.

Normally, though, no problem.

Thanks, now I don't feel so bad/cheap
