Charcoal storage - what is best open and unopen

I have seen in these posts where people are buying bags and bags of charcoal when on sale. This week Home Depot had the 2 packs of KB for $9.79 (?) and I bought 4 bags. Now I am worried about how best to store it. I have always just put the open bags into a plastic trash can with a cover on it, but a couple times I have gotten mold on it.

The question is for both open and un-open.

For the un-open, would putting them in a secured contractor trashbag be the best way to keep them dry? my garage will rust tools, it is damp and no room in the basement where I am running a dehumidifier to keep my ammo and reloading stuff dry.

for the open bags, what is the best?

Up to now I have been using my Silver B almost exclusively, but have started using my old 22 OTG and the NBBD so am starting to use charcoal.

I am looking at most likely the 22 WSM so want to stock up on charcoal but not if I end up throwing it away due to poor storage.

I just keep mine up above the slab, either on a wooden shelf or table.
Charcoal in paper bags will wick up moisture if stored on grade.
If the twin packs are plastic wrapped then you should be fine.

I used to do the same. Kept it sitting on a plastic pallet I got from work in the storage shed.. I started overflowing my storage areas with other stuff and now have a pretty big climate controlled storage unit I keep it all in now...
