Making a charcoal basket/chamber for my El Cheapo Brinkman, Curious as to approx how many lbs of kinsford charcoal does the weber hold. i got the dimensions of the chamber from the web site. Any info appreciated thanks john

I don't know exactly but I believe if I filled it to the top with briquettes and not lump we would be looking at about 10 pounds.

Thanks, I know I won't, get the same length of burn as you do with the weber. The ECB has thinner walls of the cooker also i'm sue it's not as air tight as the weber also. But i will certainly extend the burn times for Butts as well as briskets. Happy Smoking John

The WSM charcoal chamber seems to hold 2 Weber chimneys worth of Kingsford-- about 6 lbs. each-- plus a little more, so I would guess 14-15 lbs. if you mound the top. Your problem will be, in trying to duplicate that chamber, that the generally unrestricted air supply of the ECB will give you an out-of-control inferno in very short order, even if you MM the start.

thanks for your info/input. I have modified the base and lid of my "Gourmet" model brinkman, which is a half a step up from the ECB. i can control the air flow pretty well, with the dampers I have installed.I'm sure not as well as the Weber, but hopefully well enough to have some fun with it. Thanks again.John

Yep, 14-15 lbs that's about right. I can tell you that a full Weber chimney holds 100 briqs of the old Kingsford. A full ring of lump, depending on it's density is about 7-9 lbs.
