Thanks for all the kind words, fellas. Our camp is a little slice of heaven and yes, it’s A LOT of fun. A little history and background on the camp – around 40 years ago, one of my buddies bought the 37 acre parcel of land for a song. It is situated inside a New York State Forest in Chenango County (Central NY) and is the only private land in the forest and is bordered by State land to the North, South and West.
Although we hunted the property for many years, it wasn’t until 10 years ago that we got around to building the original structure. Since we planned to use it primarily as a deer camp, we kept it simple: two sets of bunk beds, a small table, a wood stove and a propane stove top. The original structure looked like this:
There is neither electricity nor running water – we use oil lamps for light and we bring two 7 gallon water containers with us for cooking and cleaning – and the only time I miss indoor plumbing is when the outhouse looks like this!
It turned out we enjoy going to camp so much that we’ve been going there year-round to fish and hunt and spend 10 – 12 weekends a year there. (Yes, we have very understanding wives

). So around 18 months ago we decided to build an addition in front of the original structure turning the original cabin into a bunk house.
This is what it looked like around 12 months ago. We didn't get around to putting the railings up on the porch and painting it until last summer. The addition has a ShipMate four burner coal burning cook stove which was rescued off a Schooner which had fallen into disrepair at the Port of Albany. That is a story for another time though.
To answer some of your questions:
We’ve talked about buying snowmobiles for years – it’s a great area for sleds and none of us are getting any younger but it hasn’t happened - yet.
The baby back ribs were served with baked potatoes & sour cream, fresh green beans and Italian bread – and there was nary a morsel leftover.
I do feel bad about not covering the grill, and last winter the unthinkable happened.
And you know what? Even though the grill was over 10 years old, Weber sent me a replacement table. How about that?
