The wife and I get to spend a week here every year at this time. One of her clients recommended the Bounty Hunter @ 975 1st Street by the river in downtown Napa. He claimed that the have the best damn beer can chicken in the world. This didn’t impress me one bit but we went anyway for the sake of business.
I was pleasantly surprised to find it was a nice small bbq pub. We took my mom and older brother and had a great meal.
I asked the waiter which he preferred the beer a chicken or the brisket sandwich. He steered my toward the brisket sandwich. It was nice and fresh from an overnight cook I would rate it an 8 out of 10. I deducted 1 point for not being a big as the ones I serve and another point for not having any fat in it. That said it was about the best brisket sandwiches I’ve paid for. I dank an ice tea.
My mom order a vegan portabellow burger. It looked amazing and tasted great. It was also larger than my brisket sandwich so she took half home for later. She drank ice water.
My wife had a beercan chicken bowl which looked and tasted better than I expected. She drank a really nice micro brew beer.
My brother ordered a beercan sandwich and a $36 glass of wine
. I don’t drink but my wife wanted to taste what a $36 glass of wine tasted like. She said it had so much good flavor she was surprised.
Lunch cost $185 including the tip but we left there happily content and I wasn’t hatin it.
Today the wife and I went to Calistoga and saw a Mexican food truck just as we entered town from the Silverado trail. We drove through town to see about any other options and couldn’t come up with one so we went back the the food truck. They had tables in the shade next to a new meat market they were putting together and this suited us just fine.
The wife ordered a carnitas burrito. I ordered a carnitas cassadilla. We each had a mango Jarrito’s to drink. Lunch cost just under $35 for us from a food truck which was more than I am used to.
When I opened my cassadilla’s it looked huge. I knew I couldn’t eat all of it so I asked the wife if we could split my meal and save the burrito for later. She gladly agreed and even with the both of us eating this we couldn’t finish it so we saved the rest for later. The wife and I loved this cassadilla. It was awsome and made with fresh carnitas done the right way. She smiled and said “not a bad lunch for just over $15 huh?” and I agreed. This place was a great find.
