Cajun Bandit doors, 18.5 and 22.5. Quality/Fit?

I have a 2009 18.5 WSM, and my neighbor just bought a 22.5. His brand-new door is so loose a goose could fly through it on both sides. You could bend it around and all, but still, that's sad for a new item.

I mentioned the Cajun Bandit door to him, and he wants one. I thought I would get one too while ordering for him. (He does not do internet.)

Before I pull the trigger on them, any thoughts?

I've seen good reviews before, but I have not studied up on them in a while.

Thanks for your help.

I recently bought a 22.5 and the stock door is a joke. I tried to bend it so it fits well, but didn't have much luck. After my first cook, I closed all the vents and the coals never went out. What a waste off a full load of charcoal! Anyway, I ordered the CB ss door. I received it this week and it fits like a charm. The $16 S&H fee is outrageous, but in the grand scheme of things (cost of meat, charcoal, etc...) it's not that bad, I guess.

I don't think I have read about any bad experiences with the CB door. While some may require a little massaging, they work great.

I have one for my 22, but need to order one for the 18
Don't look at the shipping cost, but the overall final price of it being delivered.
Once you have the door(s) in hand, you'll know you made the right decision and it's $$$ well spent.

I just purchased the door in a bundle when I purchased my rotisserie. More than likely you will strip out the handle on your current door when "trying" to put it on the CB door, my handle did break now I'm waiting for a compression latch, do a search here to see what I'm talking about. However you may be more skilled than I was and still be able to use your current handle.

I have the Cajun Bandit door on my WSM22 and could not be more pleased. I do wish they sold a handle that went with it, but I did the awesome compression latch that spread through this site like wildfire.

Initially I thought the S&H from CB was exorbitant, but I ended up getting the Roto ring and spit kit, plus the door, and the shipping really wasn't bad for th whole order combined. I went back and forth on buying the door several times, but everyone here raved about their customer service, and that ended up being the deciding factor. The package came packed well, and really fast. Beyond that, I don't have experience with their service, but it's nice to know they're great if I need them.

In my opinion the compression latch is a definite "must" with the SS door. I cannot imagine upgrading the door, and then putting the crummy Weber handle back on. I also ordered a cheap ($10-ish) unibit off of Amazon, Neiko brand, I think... And that made the process of expanding the hole a breeze. I'm not a handy man at all, but one of our awesome people here posted a link to the mstallation instructions, and I definitely needed them. Simple process, took no time at all, but I would never have gotten it right withot the instructions.

Anyway, the combo of the CB SS door and,the compression latch, are a match made in heaven, for the WSM. Makes it literally air-tight. With the bullet being air tight, I really can dial in temps with the vents, that would rival am of the pellet smokers and their digital settings. No Guru or other fan ATC'S or anything... Just the factory vents at top and bottom. Very glad I got the door and latch... Will do that again on any future WSM's I get.

Maybe I'm just lucky, but I've had zero issues with the stock latch. And I'm not exactly easy on it either as I use it as a handle while removing/installing the door.

I added a custom touch to my SS door. :D

It was one of the first things I got for my first one as a Christmas gift and was the first thing I bought for my second one before I ever used it. They are of really nice quality over the stock one and usually fit right straight from the box. If not its a easy tweek to get the good fit from them. Like others mentioned be careful on swapping handle over. I had no issues breaking mine or stripping the screw luckily :)
