Buying a gas grill tonight.... need help please!


 
Hello to all!

My local big-box warehouse store is having their end of season sale and all BBQ's are discounted heavily. I was looking at the Weber EP320 or EP-310 (haven't decided whether or not I really need the side grill and for a difference of $200 I don't know if it's worth it) but noticed that the gas tubes run side to side versus all the other types (Grill Mate, Grill Pro, etc) that run up and down. I imagine that for indirect cooking on the Weber this can cause a problem. What do you guys think? The other manufacturers are less expensive than the Weber but I would like to keep all my grills the same type. Have you guys had any problems cooking indirect because of the way the gas tubes are set up on the Weber, or any other problems at all?

Afternoon Mark,

East/west burner configuration is fine for indirect cooking. As a rule, the front burner is used for heat and the rear two thirds, plus the warming rack, can be used for cooking. If wood is also used for adding smoke, the smoke originates in the front, passes through the food and out the ~3/4" gap in the rear. Works quite well.

My only question is: were you saying that there's a $200 difference between the EP320 and EP310 versions of the Genesis? Usually it's only around a $50-$100 difference within the same model. Also "big box warehouses usually do not carry EP- versions but yours can certainly be an exception.

Which big box store is it? From what I have read here and other forums doing indirect cooking works well even long low temp smoke can be accomplished. I too am on the fence as for the side burner let us know what you decide and how much I am in the market also.

I double-checked and it was in fact the EP versions. When I check online, like you said the difference is minimal but for some odd reason, the 2 stores that I checked out had almost $200 difference for the side burner.... Go figure!

It's called Reno Depot. I don't think it's in the states but it's one of the biggest in Canada. I'll let you know if I get the side burner or not. After reading reviews I think I'll bite the bullet and go for it because from what I read, these things last forever so the extra money over 5-10 years (even if I only use it once a year) would be worth it...
 
Hey all, did you ever get the feeling that some things were not meant to be?

So I'm on my way to pick up the Weber EP320 on Staurday (I decided to bite the bullet and buy the one with the side-mounted burner) when my truck just completely dies on the road. After trying to start it for over an hour and nothing I had to call a tow truck and get it back to my house. I get back home and start diagnosing when I notice a clanging sound coming from inside the engine when I try and start it. Drop the oil pan and there are chunks of bearings in there. So unfortunately no new BBQ for me for the next few weeks as it seems like I'll be swapping engines instead

Do you ever get the feeling that some things just aren't meant to be??? I was not a happy camper this weekend but on the bright side, my girlfriend/fiancee felt so bad for me she OK-ed increasing the price range for a Summit series! But it probably won't be until next year. I guess the good ol' performer will have to do until I can save some more cash

What a pity!
Try to look at it this way- what if the engine failure happened on your way home, when you had a grill in the trunk, and you suddenly could not afford it?

Good luck with a new and hopefully better engine.

Then I would drown my sadness with a bunch of meat lol No honestly, sometimes these types of things happen for a reason...
