Bulk tri tip

I found some reasonably priced tri tip today at Danville Smart and Final.
It is $3.15 per pound if I buy 60lbs and the regular price is $3.49 per pound.
This chunk of meat is 21.84 lbs and is priced at $76.22
There are 8 or 9 cuts of meat in this bundle but I can’t really inspect it.
It doesn’t seem to have to much fat cap though.
I think it’s a gamble not being able to inspect the meat properly.
Would you gamble on it?

I haven't seen prices like that in years. When I was buying untrimmed tri tip I was getting about 25% weight as fat compared to trimmed tri tip so that would math up to about $4.20 lb after its trimmed.

last time I looked at costco, choice was about $8.50 lb or so. I can't remember so its a good deal if the meat is good.

So I pick up the tri tip and just finished processing it.
I was very wrong about it not having much of a fat cap.
It had about 8lbs of trim work.
I was also wrong about there being 8 or 9 cuts of meat.
There was 5 and I am happy about that.
I don’t much care for puny cuts.
When all was said and done I ended up with 5 nice cuts of tri tip that weighted 14lbs 3 oz.
I think that comes to $5.10 per pound.
I can live with that any day (any recent day anyways).
The meat looks great and now I have 5 more future bbq’s I get to do :).

Oh there was a “bonus round” too.
I found 4 lbs of pretty fresh cleaned crab meat in the freezer I forgot about.3C78614D-09AF-4317-87AA-5CB8F2F931A5.jpeg

Looks like a find. Enjoy. I'm a big proponent of tri-tip and would take it over brisket all day long. But there's just me and my wife, so a little goes a long way.
