Building your own controller?

I was wondering if anyone out there has built there own temp controller and has had any success? I have been doing some research on other forums and I believe that I have got a way to build a fairly simple temp controller for under a 100 bucks, and a little time. I am wondering if its worth it or should I just buy a guru or auber controller? Let me know what you think.

Do you need a wireless remote sensor/controller with hi/low temp alarms?

The LinkMeter DIY thread is for a controller with remote sensing, alarms and web server access. In my case, by the time I had checked in to that thread I didn't need a remote sensor with alarms because I already had a Maverick ET-732. Also, at that time the LinkMeter seemed to be pretty unstable so for me I found another DIY solution for the blower controller. It probably cost $30-35 by the time all was said and done.

I could have just as easily gone the other way and bought the Auber to augment the ET-732.
