I have been coming across several freebies that are very restorable but are in need of grates. They are a real budget buster so I was wondering what you guys use? I just purchased 2 sets from Amazon that are sorta skinny China made cast iron grates ...they are ok but .....I doubt this is what you guys are using. Any suggestions?
Thanks

My prefered grates are Solid Rod SS Honsgo for flip grills. But there are nearly as good for less.

This is a good set but less expensive.

There are better grates, but for flip grills, those would be two options I recommend. Jon Tofte did a great review of a host of grates last year. Most are still available, but some might not be offered any longer. But you should check it out.

Thanks Bruce....good enough for you is good enough for me! I ordered some of the cheaper ones to get a feel for them. You are very kind to include links....I appreciate your efforts.

Hopefully that link works....I have used a couple sets of these and similar from a diff seller...I believe they all come from the same place. I think a grill looks so rich when it has a clean set of OEM big heavy cast iron grates....the ones in the link I posted dont get me that rich look because they are too skinny. I can see how your stainless grates with new bars is a bling fest when the perspective buyer opens that hood its like Raiders of The Lost Arc opening a box of jewels.......I will also try to give back .....I have discovered a product that really buffs out and shines grease free for the final buff of a grill hood. I use the Simple Green and steel wool method learned here but the Simple Green leaves a haze behind.....to remove the haze I have discovered Mr Clean Clean Freak.......man do the hood shine............use a clean micro fiber to buff out......but u prob already have a secret weapon :)
See pic....it gets them so clean I cant leave them outside!

Yah, those SS rod grates seem to be sellers. I do know some buyers have mentioned cast iron and I should probably buy a set or two of them just to give buyers a choice.

Yep thats what I was thinking for this particular silver b I am working on. I already have a buyer and since he is paying a premium I thought I would give him a choice.
