Bubba Burgers

Anyone out there willing to admit it?
My husband had them at a tailgate party, he loved them, so he brought home a box, and I grilled them last night.
I was really surprised at how good they were.
I was very skeptical, it says right on the box to cook them from frozen, so I thought there is no way these things will be any good.

I have to say, I would make them again.

I've had them too, Michele. They are pretty good. We use to take them tailgating in the parking lot before the NASCAR races...easy to transport. We now eat at my house and then go to the races so it's just as easy to make up some patties.

I REALLY wanted to like them, but I guess I'm a bit spoiled by the 80/20 we typically use. They were definitely edible...just not great.

Then again, I might be cooking them wrong.

I cook patties frozen all of the time. I usually make my own but it seems like they stay flatter when cooking them from a frozen state. Bubba Burgers are OK. But you know how it is, once you start making something from scratch you become overly critical of premade stuff. Anyway I think grinding meat is fun.

You can get them in the freezer section of your grocery store. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

thanks michele. I don't typically buy pre-made burgers, mostly because we don't eat a lot of them and I find it cheaper and better to buy chuck and grind it myself. But as far as frozen burgers go everyone's primary concern should be safety (IMO). Hotdogs get knocked for being full of junk but from recent stuff I read, burgers are worse*. It was interesting to see Bubba emphasize safety on their website. So as long as they are trustworthy, the product seems worth buying (if you require pre-made burgers).

*I recall reading something, possibly posted here, about a women who ate an undercooked frozen burger and got infected with a bacterial that left her in rough shape. There was an investigation of the suspected beef and it was quite interesting finding out what went into it. It went something like this: meat came from 3 sources, one was from somewhere in central or south America, another was domestic but had several heath violations charged against it, and the third source was totally crazy in that the "meat" came from a recovery plant that extracts meat from the trimmings of other processing plants using ammonia and centrifuges! After reading the article I was happy that I prefer hotdogs when presented with the choice of a burger or a dog.

I don't mean to derail the thread, but if these Bubba burgers are indeed "safe" then maybe they have some merit.

Hey J biesinger Tops sells them, and they had them on sale recently! Nevertheless, I agree with you I don't buy frozen burgers in a box!

Wow, my colon just twisted..."mechanically separated animal parts" is the new kosher. lol

My niece almost died from eating an undercooked frozen burger from a very well known outdoor amusement park.
Back when we were newlyweds, my wife had a job at a burger in a box plant in the Back of the Yards in Chicago. They supplied burgers to one of the top FF chains, and also to most super-markets.
I'll just say, that most of her stories would make us cringe. ( and that is not a knock on the BB burgers, which Ive heard are pretty good)

Not for me, JMO. I'm nuts when it comes to this stuff. I won't buy ground meat from the supermarket display case. There's never been a problem getting a chuck roast from the back and having the store grind it for me. I don't own a grinder because it just wouldn't get that much use, otherwise, I'd do it myself. Again JMO. I'm sure there are some very good products out there.

You don't have to look hard to find horror stories about just about any food you purchase .. With restaurant's, it's even easier!

I've bought and cooked BB's often. They're pretty good in this household. Cooked Sam's brand too but not as good. They're good to have on hand when you don't have time to prepare or thaw what you have on hand..

I hear you Chris, and your point is well taken. I'll only say that I have to draw the line somewhere and make some assumptions. Actually, the store I frequent has its cutting area in an open space adjacent to a display case. Of course, that doesn't tell me anything about the condition of their equipment. I understand that. I have had to return ground meat a few times to other stores, but not this one, so it has just become a thing of mine. Again, your point is well taken. You just never know, but i stick to where I've not had any problems. JMO

I used to grind meat in a local supermarket when I was going to college. I would eat out of that thing with no worries. Other than the meat which was being worked all of the equipment was spotless and sanitized often.

If you frequent only one store at least you know where you got sick? At least that is my theory...but grinding your own is fun and safer, cause u do know what went into that grinder! LOL

Shoot, I worry more about the seafood than the beef.........seems more people get sick off of that but it doesn't make the "big news" because there aren't huge batches and recalls....people just get sick and die or not.....

Well that last statement was a real buzzkill wasn't it? LOL

Cheers
