Broilmaster G-2000D Restoration

Picked up this Broilmaster G-2000D that I had been considering for a while. I thought I would put it on hold because @Eric-NH picked one up but he suggested I pick it up so we can compare notes so why not lol. Plus @Jon Tofte has a similar model and @Joe Anshien has inspired me to dig deeper into Broilmaster. I'm almost finished with my Broilmaster P4XF-2.

So I just got back home with my G-2000D and looking it over I'm very happy with it for a starting point. I think it's in exceptional shape for being over 50 years old being manufactured about 1972. I'll try to find out exactly what year.

I need to figure out how I'm going to convert it to propane. Needs a new wind shield under the burner on the left side. It's not going to take much to restore this one. Burners are like new. It doesn't seem to have been used much especially the right side if it was used at all. Grates all look good too. It's been stored in a garage for decades.

Yes, wow, the “oven” right side looks to have seen almost no use at all! That looks like a great starting point. Funny we now have three of these uncommon grills among our group!

Yeah I think the shelf brackets are different. I think on mine it hooks onto the top lip of the cookbox and I think yours connects to the control panel but I could be wrong.

So these grills came with an optional table that goes on the front and yours just doesn't have it? I'm just trying to get a feeling for these things at this point. I'm guessing that converting to propane is a lot simpler than most Weber grills, probably only requiring an orifice swap.

Here is one with a shelf.
Also a side picture where you can see it hooks over the cook box and has a triangle type bracket.
You can see the little slots on the front lip of my cookbox that excepts the brackets.

I'm not sure about the propane conversion yet but I hope you are right.
 
That's fantastic, and in really nice shape! I wish mine had the decal with model and serial number, but I must say that I do think there are identical at first, quick glance. What an awesome find!
 
I have 2 wire hangers that look like they would hold a tin can. It's what I remember my grandmother's grill having back when I was a kid in the early 80s. It wasn't a broilmaster, but quite common for the era

Well if they didn't come with an original grease catcher then that glass jar gives me an idea. I have a large collection of glass canning jars from the early 1900s. I'll see what fits. I can also try the stainless steel one that came with my P4
