Briskets without labeling

I have seen at both my local Walmart, and the new WINCO, briskets which have a USDA stamp (passed) or something like that with no indication of whether it is choice, or select. (but in cryovac)Then, sometimes I do see Choice. This leads me to believe that they are selects. Anyone got more info?

Most supermarkets will tout 'Choice' if in fact the meat is Choice because it behooves them to do so. (Or they'll get their supplier to label the packaging if they're purchasing pre-packaged.) I would be inclined to think the same as you do.

I buy most briskets from a local, country butcher. All his meats are 'no-roll', i.e., they come from ungraded carcasses. USDA inspection of meat facilities and meats is required; grading is optional.
