brisket price ?

Hi there,

Since most of you guys are ine the US, i got a question for you, how much do you usually pay for a brisket ?

This is the second time i buy one and i must say that i find it quite expensive ! last time i paid 12,50 $/KG and this time 13,21$/KG ....

my price are in canadian dollar but there is not a that big difference at the moment ... 1$CA = 1.03$US ...

Last one i got was 5$ per lb and was just under 12lbs.
So i guess that would be roughly 11$ per/kg.
Not cheap IMO.
 
Here is where the Americans really make out. I'm embarrassed to say I just paid $2.29/lb for a whole packer brisket, 14 lb at Restaurant Depot. One of the several reasons I love brisket. Sorry it's so expensive up there. Try a restaurant supply place, if there's one around and they let you in.
 
An untrimmed packer runs $2.50 to $3 a pound here and it can be found on sale for $2 sometimes.

Trimmed flats run $4-5 a pound.
 
**** that is what i tought ! even over here that is expensive because i can often get much more "good" meat at a lower price ...

at 13 $KG i can get exterior or interior round or the entier round at Costco for 5.50$/KG !

last week i even bought a entire strip loin at at 7.59$/KG !!!!

I think next time i'll try to cure another piece that the brisket ... way to expensive over here !!!
 
And i live in the beef capital of Canada

but i must say we got quite a lot too in Quebec !

i do think i'll try to cure strip loin next time ! there is a huge fat cap on it too, and the meat is already so tender !

Think i would try it two different way by splittling the strip loin in two. One that i would cook up to 180-185F and the other to 150F !

I'm lucky that I know someone that is a member at restaurant depot so last time I picked up brisket I think it was about $2.15lb and I bought two (15.5lbs each). At regular stores all they have (rarely) are flats stripped of ALL fat and are around $5.00lb. Never buy those!
 
Chuck_B, your prices sound like here in Charlotte. I need to make friends with someone who has a Restaurant Depot card
 
Around my parts I'm about $6/lb for packers. I know I can get cheaper (under $5) if I order direct from a meat packer but my wife would shoot me if I bought a case of briskets.

If you have a couple friends it might be worthwhile to split a case. The problem is that our grocery chains don't carry them so you are stuck getting special orders at smaller butchers (higher mark-up).
