Stores like Bass Pro and Academy Sports purchase in sufficient volume to qualify for distributor pricing from Brinkmann. What they then sell it for at retail is up to them. Brinkmann, by direct selling from their website, is stuck in the position of not competing with their dealer customers, who are both paying more and trying to make a reasonable margin.

It's the Brinkmann charcoal pan that's used in the WSM as a larger water pan.

So what is the difference between the replacement water pan and the charcoal pan? Can either be used for the Piedmont Pan?

The most important difference is the diameter of the pan, and whether or not it will hang from the flanges in the WSM. See also Water Pan Modifications.

I guess I lucked out in a way. My original Brinkmann was a charcoal model but I didn't think it would work well as there were no vents to control the air flow. I bought an electric element for it right away. I never did use the charcoal bowl so now I have a 'new' one to use with the WSM.

I've been able, in the past, to purchse the Brinkman CP from Sport's Academy, but my store has stopped carrying them. When I need more, I'll order several at one time, to hold down shipping costs, from Bass Pro shops.
