Bought a brisket for weekend

Since politics are forbidden on this site, I will refrain from explaining the mechanics of economics with respect to the money supply & interest rates,
so the short answer is, if you want to play, you have to pay.

Not only playing but that hunk o meat is on my crippled Z. It's cooking very well. Just no app interface but I have both my Chef IQ probes in it. And since it will be a long overnight cook, worst case if I want to change temps or anything I'll have to go outside. At least it's not winter :D

Pulled that little brisket about 90 minutes ago. It's triple wrapped and resting in a Styrofoam chill chest. Has an amazing bark. It was not the best brisket I've ever bought. Actually very disappointing (especially considering where I bought it). Seemed to probe tender enough. So this afternoon we'll see how it goes

Sorry, so much commotion here I forgot pics :( But here are the good and bad points. First taste was incredible. Good deep smoke. next, it had great bark. Even some nice burnt ends. And it was incredibly tender. But, now the not so good. The quality of this brisket was disappointing at best. The flat was very thin (I honestly should have taken it off completely and ground it burgers). I was fooled because the packer folded the flat under giving me the impression I had something to work with. Next, the point. It was extremely odd. 2 relatively large areas of meat. No marbling but separated by large areas of fat.
Out of an 111/2 lb brisket I am quite sure I trimmed at least 2 - 3 lbs off it. And even the point was not marbled. I honestly think this thing was select not choice.
So I went through the motions I cooked it. Though everyone but me loved it (go figure). Even this little cutie ate it and she's picky.

She is the oldest of the 2 granddaughters. Anyway even she ate a sizeable portion.
We also had locally grown corn picked this AM from our fav local grower. I roasted a baker's dozen in the Wolf (pressing that into service) as I did not feel like starting up Big Z for a dozen ears our favorite locally grown super sweet corn.
It was actually pretty good. Oldest daughter and son in law took home a large portion So, maybe I am being way too hard on myself
Anyway at least we all had a nice time.

Well, I wrote to Z Grills about the issue. Doing research I find out they brought out a brand new app. Yet if you go on the old app it says it's "up to date". and there is no automatic update. So, I find the new app, and voila it found my grill and it's now operational again. Not the best app in the world but better.
I guess they silently just turned off the servers for the old app, and it was basically "shut down". No warning, no emails to registered users to let you know "hey this version is going away, download this new one and delete the old". Yep, great support. Not only that I emailed and even called them today. Even on voice call no mention of Z Gills 2.0 made.
So I am back to fully operational but quite displeased with the company. Too bad. They make a really good product. So good even companies like Green Mountain and Traeger buy them a rebadge them.

I’m glad you are back up and running with new app. Maybe others will be helped by finding your post above.

I hope so. I did not even bother to post it in the Z Grills FB group. There is one user on that group that is so obnoxious, foul and abusive to many of the others (especially me) on the group I've just done nothing more than observe now. I don't think I have ever run into anyone with such a foul and abusive attitude on a group than him. He's been reported and much to the cheer of other users been suspended but like bad sushi or herpes he keeps coming back. So, I just observe now. I don't even post there. Even though I am sure many things I've found (especially where this "expert" is involved are flat out wrong). Life's too short to be bothered with bodily openings like that

You would think that ZGrills or any company that has you register for the product's warranty online would email updates and information to you assuming you completed the online registration...and probably checked off the boxes for promotions or new products,etc...
But don't most apps notify you when updates are available?

You'd think. I did all the above. And the weird thing is , when I went into the old app to check it always said fully up to date. When I wrote to them, after days, they wrote back and asked which app version I had. I wrote back informing them. Days have gone by.................crickets.
The new app (oddly you can still download the old app on Play Store), also includes a firmware update to the controller. I guess they completely shut down old app functionality, did not tell anyone, and you still end up having to jump through hoops to even discover it.
But it works (at least 90%). The recipe automation does not but that is OK. Overkill anyway. Since I have the Chef IQ with alarms and also now the new Z app has alarms for probe temps as well. So worst case, I simply adj temps at the grill or on my phone, pretty simple.
It's things like this that would make me look for a different product.
I guess they're still so new at making grills for themselves they've not gotten to that point yet. Oddly too, even when I had a rep on the phone yesterday. Not a word was said about the new app even though I described in detail the issue.
Oh well, we shall see what we see.

Only thing I can think is, I know Android has an app and system update feature. System updates are automatic. Apps can be batch updated. At least that's what my last several phones have been capable of. I'm sure it's similar with iPhones too.But you do have to initiate the process.

Just went over the Costco looking for a prime brisket. All they had was Choice. Disappointed, but did buy a fresh swordfish steak. Then I went over to Sam's Club, and they had THREE USDA Prime Grade briskets. That's two more than I've ever seen there in the rack at once. I bought the 22 pounder because I liked the shape of it. Price was $4.34 lb.
