planned on smoking a butt this w/e. usually i've been using boneless shoulder roasts i buy at the store. this time i got a shoulder butt roast with a piece of the bone still in it. will the bone affect my cooking time at all?

I think you'll be happily surprised with the bone-in butt and it will be your choice in the future if it's available. I believe the bone actually helps to maintain the moisture in the meat as it cooks.

Perhaps there might be a slight increase in the cook time, but nothing of significance.

Awesome, thanks! i can't wait for saturday. i was going to apply a rub tomorrow night and then do the mustard slather/rub in the morning prior to cooking. i'm hoping that makes for one delicous butt!!! i'll know for sure saturday night. already have my eastern NC sauce made and waiting!!
