I really love my 22 inch... and i do a lot on it as it is. i discovered smoking and whew.... just amazing! but....

We are a big family, six of us. I usually cook about 16 burgers. if i am doing chicken, i cook about 24 legs. ribs... 3 racks. chicken breasts, at least 8. i have never done wings because i would need to cook.... well heck... a lot! pork steaks.... at least 8.

and i like to grill my veggies. i have also started putting my cast iron on there too.... i went from a standard 10 inch to a larger Emeril griddle/ comal. i used it last night to make some potatoes on the grill and it was a tight fit. plus i have an even larger cast iron that i would like to use for other things.... pizza?

anyway.... i know everyone is going to say go for the bigger grill. which i want to... but just wondering how much more food can i really get on there?

i have been reading up on it and it seems that it is about three inches higher than the 22 inch. which i think is great, im 6 feet tall... so that little added height is already a pro.

thoughts?
price is a factor... and all i see them at is about 300. do they ever get cheaper (fingers crossed)? i have never seen one on craigslist...and i am always on there.

Unless you can find one on CL, I wouldn't buy a new 26. Get another 22, there plenty of charcoal for the price difference between a 22 and a 26. And if you can find a 22 on CL is even more saving. Don't know about you, i like to keep my money and shop CL. I saw the 26 today at ace and boy it's huge, if i can find one on CL i am snagging it.

Vincent.

you know, i have thought about that too.... but i dont know how crazy it would be to have both kettles going at the same time...

but... i have often wondered about getting another 22, and then i could smoke some beans and mac on one and grill burgers on the other....

or smoke a couple of racks while making chicken and burgers on the other.

it is something i have definitely thought about.

i feel the same way as you do... i like to save, where ever and as much as i can. love CL it is where i got my current 14 yr kettle for 15 bucks.

Not only that, if you don't need the extra space you can also save fuel not heating such huge grill.

firing another grill is the same as the first one. I use 2 performer and another 22 to cook at one time or another because I needed it. It give you much more control in temp of your food.

Vincent.

dual 22"s are definitely more convenient than a single 26.

the only time i fire up my 26 is if i'm doing a whole side of salmon or if i'm cooking for 10+ (in which case i'd use the 26 AND one or more 22s)

the most i've used at a single time is the 26, the 22 smoker, and two 22 kettles.

i have thought about the fuel issue as well. i would think it would take more to get the 26 going.... so kind of splitting the difference if i am firing up another 22.

plus... i also had the thought that with 2 22's that HAS to be more cooking area than one 26.

thanks for letting me bounce thoughts on this Vincent....

If I was you I would get another 22 and look for a 26 on CL. I got this one on CL last fall for $40

I got it and absolutely use it all the time. It is big, I use it on Sundays for a large group at the house. I wasn't sure at first either and now I can't imagine not having it. If you got a large group I highly recomend. I would keep looking on CL though, I wouldn't shell out the $300+. I have four grills that are in regular use at my house. As I said I have a bunch of family on Sundays, and in the summer I have three or four 22's going and now that I got the 26 it has been my go to grill. Keep looking you should be able to find both for under $100, you won't regret it. I got both the grills in this picture on one weekend for $70 total.

yup.... it sounds like the 26 is NICE.... but another 22 is more doable and will be easier to find. i can definitely see myself using two 22's on any given day.

i have a smokey joe... but actually it is still in the box!

i am actually waiting for warm months to take it with me to the lake. It is just too small for my brood, but i am going to be trying out my smokey joe and my GA gas together at the lake. but thats another venture.....

i was actually cruising CL just now and found a 22 inch OTG for 40 bucks, in my area. trying to get him to go down a little bit on it. but $40 sounds about the lowest i have seen in my area.

Brian,
Whats up with the 26er? It looks older but has newer handles?
And is that the original ash pan? And the OT handle, that thing is all bass ackwards!

Becky,

Not a problem, glad i could help. Don't get me wrong, I would definitely want a 26 but not the new asking price.

Would definitely look for another 22 on CL.

Brian,

Nice 26 and great score, can you put that in the mail and send it here in socal?

Haven't seen a 26 in socal CL for many months.

Vincent.

Where are you Becky? What area are you in? No reason to limit yourself, got offer that guy $25 or $30 for that OTG and keep on the lookout for a 26. There was an older 26 in Chicago after I bought mine, it was a hundred bucks but it was older, it was one with the metal wheels from the 60's. I bet you could have gotten it cheaper. If need be get another 22 then you would have three!

Brian

Yea Vincent maybe no 26 in socal, but you guys have all the other awesome deals, and all the cool colors. The best part of it is, AJ is like a 1000 miles and 28 hrs away. Apparently he can't get to any of them, which is really best for everyone.

Brian

im in the Louisville area Brian.... it is rare to find anything on CL in this area. i really dont know why... but i am on there all the time.

i got the guy to go down to 30 but he wants to meet right now, at midnight !

ugh... just a little too weird for me there. i told him i would get with him tomorrow and hopefully he still has it.

this past summer when my vehicle was at the shop for weeks i saw sooo many crazy deals on CL here. i was going crazy... i am talking some really nice older vintage finds. it was crazy.... i still get upset when i think about the stuff i missed out on!

There's always another grill to be had, I wouldn't lose any sleep over those deals. As for meeting at midnight....ahhhh no. No one else would meet at midnight either and it will be there tomorrow, oh and take someone with you, and maybe an attack dog,

Brian

this weirdo only wants to meet at night....

sorry.... i would love a OTG at 30 bucks... but just feels a little odd.

plus... Brian is right.... always more grills to be rescued and part of the fun is in the looking.

Becky,

I can understand you not wanting to meet someone you don't know in the middle of the night.

Have you asked him why? It may be that he works during the day. If still available maybe see if possible during the weekend as most people are off.

Definitely more grills to be had in the future.

Vincent.

Becky, if you are interested, I have a new Stok tower I picked up from home depot for the CI grates. I haven't assembled it, and I'll include the grate from my performer (also new) since I'm keeping the CI grates. $30 if you want it.
