Best sub-$1000 smoker

I have 2 WSM and 2 OTG kettles which meet my needs at home just fine. I'm looking for recommendations on a sub-$1000 smoker that has a larger cooking capacity for when I compete or cook for larger groups. I'm currently leaning towards a Jumbo Big Drum Smoker, which is just under a grand after shipping. Now, I know it doesn't appear to be much more than a big barrel and people build their own. I get that but just don't have time to deal with that project right now. So taking homebuilt smokers out of the equation, what would you guys recommend that has similar capacity? For reference, this can do 6 butts on a rack and there are 2 racks.

Most of the Backyard, Spicewine, etc just don't have the same capacity at that price point. Looks like you need to spend at least 2k. Please correct me if I'm wrong or missing other options.

Under $1000 is the problem. Not sure there is such an animal.

If it were me, I'd save another $800 to $1000 and look at the Stumps smokers.

The BDS looks interesting, but I'd want more control......I think......

You can do 6 butts in each wsm if need be. That's 12 butts plus the extra cost of fuel.

that would be a good choice. i would suggest reading other sites and also going to comps to see what is available and what folks are doing with them. www.bbq-brethren.com/forum/index.php seems to have mucho info on drum smokers but also quit a few caterers and competitors also. not to say you won't get alot of info here but ya need all the info you can get.

I suppose I could pick up 2 new WSMs. I can get them from a friend for $165 each. Throw in some tel-tru thermos and a new wind screen and I'm well below $500.

I like the concept of being able to smoke different meats at different temps at the same time, so maybe this is the way to go. Big Drums are just too expensive, imo.
