We have used Crosse and Blackwell, what brands are the best? I've seen some English product that looked good. Robertson's, Triptee....

Steve,

We had lunch with my 94 year old aunt yesterday and she said mincemeat is her favorite pie. My wife is now on a quest to make her a pie. We'll probably make the mincemeat from scratch, I don't know how much I trust mystery meat mincemeat.

Jim, I will be interested in your efforts. It seems mincemeat is only carried at this time of the year by many grocers who often struggle to sell a case or two.
My internet search lead to some English brands which I know nothing about...

Steve,

Did you make your mincemeat? My wife used this recipe. The taste reminds me of fruitcake and marmalade. I didn't notice the meat in the filling.

Mincemeat pies are huge here in Amish town. In the recipe where it says 1.5C of Brandy, AJ, Cider, or Beef stock, you should use Brandy as that makes it Authentic. Jim, your pie looks fantastic.

Bryan - My wife used brandy when she made this recipe. She halved it and still had enough for four mincemeat pies.

Steve, I work with a guy, who every year at Christmas, he and his wife make a ton of mincemeat pies. He always gives me one. They are hands down the best mincemeat pies I have ever eaten. I'll see if he is willing to give up the recipe? B

Wow, great looking pie!
I have not made a pie...getting side-tracked on other projects....
Bryan, hope you can get that recipe.
