Beef/Chicken Base

Not tried many, but the best so far is Knorr Chicken Broth Mix. I have to get this one from the Asian isle, it's not in with the rest of the stuff. It's a 1kg tub with Chineese (I think) writing on it. I would prefer if it was less salty (first ingrediant) but the flavor is otherwise good and no parsley or fake yellow color.

I really like Bovril liquid for beef. It's got a nice flavor, and a great dark color.

Bryan,

I often buy the Better Than Bouillon too. It's available at my local neighborhood grocery store.

I haven't used their stuff for a while, but Minor's stuff has always been good when I've used it.

They even have Bacon base!

Available on-line through Minor's and through Amazon.

You know I've tried to like the BTB. The chicken I like but the beef is just plain nasty too me. I picked up a tub of Minor's chicken base at BJ"S last week and used it tonight for my dressing. Of course I had to taste a spoonful, I like it.

I don't care for anyone's beef base very much but I find that BtB's or Minor's work okay for things in which I might typically use it--when it is a smaller component of the whole. For things where beef broth or stock is required I use broth or stock (almost always stock). When I'm traveling I tend to use quality canned if I can find it, but mixed with chicken about 50-50 or so, as straight beef (that isn't homemade) rarely works well.
