I have a bay plant in backyard, like the taste, and use fresh leaves frequently in stews and soups. Anyone try putting any fresh vay in water pan or direct on coals?

Putting it in the water won't do much, but if you put enough on the fire it will influnce the outcome.

In the northeast, we don't have bay plants, but I would think that if you took several leaves, rolled and tied them, they'd make nice smoking leaf logs. I've never used bay to smoke before, so if bay smoke is a good thing to begin with, I'd think the little logs would be the way to use them, as opposed to just scattering then loosely over the coals.

Thanks Mike, I'll try the log method. I use them on gas grill with shiskabobs, skewering one between each piece of lamb. Works well.
