Basting Ribs

This is just a thought.
When I baste my ribs, I make a apple juice, vinegar, and vegetable oil mixture that I shake vigorously and spray onto my ribs with a spray bottle that I bought at the dollar store.

I was thinking that since the tip of the sprayer fits through the holes in the top vents, I put it on the largest spray pattern the spray bottle has, stick the tip through one of the vent holes, spray like mad moving tip back and forth to insure your getting it all over the ribs( they are on a rib rack). My thought on this is that you are not taking the dome off, and loosing heat.
That could add an extra hour to you whole cooking time.

Let me know your thoughts.... Any comments

Quite often lifting the dome results in a temperature spike upwards due to the extra oxygen. All depends on the condition of the fire and fuel below.

Remove lid with one hand, spray bottle in other. Spray process takes 15-20 seconds. Replace lid. Doing this, I never find the cooker to take more than a few minutes to rebound back to temp, and I know I've basted as much as-- and where-- necessary.
