Bare metal on edge of 18 1/2 Base

I was assembling my new (first) 18 1/2 WSM that I received for Christmas and noticed a 1 inch or so area on the top edge of the base that looks like bare metal. ( no porcelain ). Is this a common problem? Should I contact Weber or just spray some high temp paint on it.

You could just spray it and eventually it will get coated with a nice coat of BBG gunk, but you paid good money for that.. so I would give Weber a call.:)

Weber has some really good customer service so I would give them a call and or send a pic. Since its new out of the box that way they will probably send a new base. If not its real easy to just tape and spray that small area with some high temp grill paint available at most Lowes, HD or the like. Like timothy said they will also get covered over with smoking gunk after a few smokes and most likely not be an issue. But its a lot of $$ for these so I agree with timothy and just give them a call..

Thanks for the advice, I called Weber and they were Super Nice. They want me to email a photo, and it sounds like they will replace it. Now, if I can gets my wife's Kindle Fire to connect to our Wi-Fi all of my Christmas woes will be solved. LOL........Tony

Kewl!!
Now save that old base! With three vents that will be an excellent lid for HH cooks.
Remove the legs, plug the holes with SS hardware and add a lid handle.:wsm:
