Ash Pan on older 18" WSM?

The WSM I bought at the estate sale does not have an ash can at the bottom. Is this going to be a problem? Perhaps there is a mod that I can do to solve the problem (if it is one). I will likely be using Kingsford blue charcoal for my heat source. Thanks!
 
Are you missing the charcoal ring/ chamber ? If so some have made smaller versions out of expanded metal. Or you could call Weber CS and order one.

If you are referring to the platter looking appartus connected to the legs, that's actually a heat shield.
This was added to the units just a couple of years ago...mine is older, so it doesn't have one. The vents are slightly higher than the grate, so ash doesn't leave the cooker.
