Ash kicked up to food on top grate.

I've noticed that on a couple of cooks that I am getting some ash kicked up to food on the top grate. I've been fairly consistent with using Maple Leaf briquettes, so that doesn't appear to be the cause. The first time it happened I thought gust of wind, as the weather turned nasty that day. Next time it happened was a calm, beautiful, sunny day .. no wind gusts. The only consistent items are vent position and that the charcoal ring has been completely full both times. Once up to temperature, top vent is still fully open, one bottom vent closed and the other two cracked about 1/8". Any thoughts?

Thanks.
