approximately how much rub for a 6 to 8lb Butt?

I'm guessing here since i never measured it to be about a 1/2 cup to maybe 3/4 cup. I just put it on.

Just lay it on heavy, and have it sit in the fridge overnight if possible. You want to create some good bark flavor with your rub.

I ordered a bag of texas bbq rub and I am planning on doing 2 6-8lb butts this weekend. I hope I have enough for both of them.

From their website:
How Much Meat Will Texas BBQ Rub Prepare?
That is another good question. The fact is that every piece of meat is a different size, shape, and thickness.
Every person likes a different amount of spice on their meats.
Generally speaking, the thicker and bigger the piece of meat you are cooking the more Texas BBQ Rub you will use to prepare the meat. If you are cooking a pork butt that usually requires more rub than does a chicken half or a pork loin. You see what I mean.
But, I will give you the best answer I can. This is based on my usage of Texas BBQ Rub over the last 7 years. These are averages I've kept on my usage and they represent the pounds of meat covered using two(2) pounds of Texas BBQ Rub.
Beef brisket - 40 to 45 pounds (about 4 briskets)
Pork spareribs - 40 to 45 pounds (about 12 full slabs)
Pork butts - 40 to 45 pounds (about 10 butts)
Chicken - 50 to 60 pounds (about 14 whole birds)
Pork loins - 40 to 45 pounds (about 12 loins)
