Anything in the cavity?

Planning on sprinkling the inner cavity with my rub of course. Should I put anything else inside my birds while they are on the smoker? My wife was suggesting halves of apples and lemons.
Any thoughts?

I'll sometimes throw orange, lemon, and/or onion quarters in there, along with some fresh herbs. Go for it.

I took orange peels cut into quarters and piled them with sage, rosemary and thyme. Meat had a great herb flavor.

I go with salt, pepper, apple, onion, carrot, celery, herbs and a pierced lemon. ****, looks like everything except the kitchen sink.
