Anyone tried the Costco charcoal briqs?

I saw this in my local Costco today. It's priced at $18.99 for 2X20lb twins. Not bad as it's $4 less than the 2X18lb twin packs of K-Pro. Does anyone know anything about this stuff?

I've never seen it there before so I know nothing about it. Is it re-branded KBB, Royal Oak, or something else?

Not yet but I would try it at that price. Charcoal is a commodity and the differences are minor. Briquettes for $0.50 per lb is good.

I tried them last year and didn’t like them. Didn’t light as well and fast as Kingsford.

Consensus seemed to be that the Kirkland charcoal burned at a lower temp and with more ash as compared to the Kingsford Pro that Costco also sells.

Worth a try. But I still like the K Pro better at the usual Costco sale price of 50 cents per pound. The lower ash is important to me since I usually only use charcoal for long low/slow cooks.

For a quicker cook, the Kirkland (or KBB) would be fine with me.

FYI. I was in Costco yesterday and they did not have K-Pro on sale. It was the usual price of $22.99. Maybe it will go on sale for Memorial Day Weekend?

I have used the Kirkland, and I think that it is more comparable to the regular Kingsford than the better, premium K-Pro. It's not bad. I found nothing wrong with it. It lit fine. I will say that the briqs were more rounded in general than "pillow shaped" like kingsford molds theirs.
