Personal experience has been closer to 8 years before I get new, but still - they ain't forever (but used a lot over that time period)
Me, I prefer using the CI over the SS so even if they were the same cost - I'd still pick the CI
The aftermarket SS flavoriver bars - totally worth the cost if you're planning on keeping the grill.
 
We'll I had no idea they were going to cost that much not sure what to do now I don't have an extra 130 to blow on grates right now ... Son of a gun
 
I would spend half that and get CI grates. The will last as long as you take care of them. We cook in CI skillets everyday in the house that are over 50 years old. I'm a fan of CI, though they do require maintenance. However, to my knowledge, they don't require $130.
