Amazon selling Brinkman pan with wrong part number

After reading about the larger Brinkmann charcoal pan used as a water pan in the 18" WSM I decided to order one from Amazon. The part number was the one listed on the Water Pan modifications page of the virtualweberbullet site. On that site, it states that the pan is sometimes sold under the part number 812-0002-0. On the Amazon product page, it does have water pan in the title but states that it is 15" in overall diameter and has this part number listed on the the Water Pan Modifications page so I thought I was good. When I received the pan, it was a little over 13.5" in diameter and I think it is the water pan not the charcoal pan. It did have a sticker on the bottom with the 812-0002-0 part number on it. I did call Brinkmann and confirm that the 812-0002-0 is a correct part number for the charcoal pan that is a little over 15" in diameter.

I ended up ordering the 114-0002-0 part number from the Brinkmann site. More expensive shipping but hopefully I will get the correct pan this time.

Academy sports sells them cheap.

BTW, make sure you put a saucer in it or you're asking for frustration on temps.

That WAS the place to get them (and still is if you have one near you), last I checked they quit selling the charcoal pans online.

Hi Chris,

That is the one I ordered. It had a sticker on the bottom with the correct part number but it was only 13.5" in outside diameter. Not sure who put the wrong part number sticker on it but I was hesitant to order another from Amazon since I figured the odds of just marking one wrong were pretty low.

Then they screwed up. Return / exchange it. I ordered (and am using) the charcoal pan from that link, so it should be the correct one.

does this help much if you have a new WSM or is it only the older ones?

Only helps the older ones.

Actually, it helps with newer 18.5"'s too. Much better clearance than using the stock pan. I have a 2013 model.

Hey Clark, I am not sure I agree with you. Yes, the old pans were VERY shallow (SJ lids), and therefore using the Brinkman charcoal pan was a nice way to increase pan capacity for those that needed it. I think we agree there.

For the new ones, as you know, weber now uses SJ bowls... and, well, I think they are too big(deep)! The brinkman is flat on the bottom, and allows just a tad more clearance, so I use them even on my 'new' WSMs. Point being, for some folks, the brinkman pan might be something they are interested in.

EDIT: also, yeah, what Chris said
