A question on the history of Blue Kettles.

We've seen a couple of the rare and fantastic "light blue"/"robin's egg"/"Tiffany Blue" kettles from old. (Troy's pic):

And we are familiar with the relatively common "Cobalt Blue" that is currently and previously available.

Has there ever been a darker, more Navy colored Blue kettle produced for the US? Are the 'recent' blues of the last 10 years or so all the same color?

i sat staring at that first pic for at least a minute trying to figure out if it was in better condition than mine.

then i realized that it is mine.

as far as i know, the current blue has been the same for the last decade.

I would say having seen the dark blue kettle featured in the 1979 edition of the "Barbecuing the Weber Covered Way" I would say that the current blue has its origins in the late 1970s. The blue looks identical on the metal bowl handled kettles like the modern ones. Give or take a "shade" like the red ones had been.

Haha! I credited it as yours right in my post!<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content">Originally posted by C.Hill:

Thanks Craig. These blue ones are the next items on my Grail list. I was hoping for a darker blue than the cobalt, but it will certainly do!

Gerd, a navy blue OTG would be pretty cat's rear-end cool if Weber would ever make one.

Troy, you are awesome! Thanks for the laugh (with you not at I hope). That is exactly what I would do but then call my wife over as well. Thank you

'splain yourself Shaun.

It looks like a navy one. But it also looks like a dark photo. Spill the beans. Is it real?

Its not really Navy Blue.. Its just poor photography.. I could be wrong..
Cmon Shaun, enlighten us..

Would be an odd photo staging for a heated grill (cover right next to it, charcoal leaning against, etc)

C'mon Shaun!

It's really a navy blue. I saw it on craigs a few years ago and saved the photo. The seller also had it listed as navy blue. Not staged like AJ's.

Call it what you want, doesn't make it "Navy"
Unfortuantely, no one knows what colors they made. Not even Weber!

And FYI, the CURRENT BLUE, which is clearly a cobalt or bright shade, is in fact called DARK BLUE by weber. But not by me.

Those SS tabled performers sure look darker.

</div></BLOCKQUOTE>I think it does make it Navy since it's clearly not cobalt. If you remember a while back another member posted a rare never seen before brown SS Performer. How about the 420 green one I bought from that same era. I think they made a few specialty colors during the SS Performer run. probably for specialty stores like Williams Sonoma and Crate & Barrel. The Corona ones today are also a navy blue. Besides all of that, my original picture is stll much darker than your photoshopped one.

good points shaun.

is the corona one really darker than the normal blue? Jeff had one for a while, i anticipate his input.

what's the 420 green (hehe) one you mentioned from the same era?

I know what 420 is, whats Photoshop?
Both the pics I posted are form the same person.
And if I recall correctly, they were posted on this very site. Just can't remember where.
So, what color is this one?

Yes AJ, Blue. Duh.

But seriously, I found the thread with that one in it. It is clearly Cobalt Blue similar to the current ones despite it's provenance.

And of course that Cobalt Blue is what Weber calls Dark Blue.

And it is not. And it is clearly not Navy either.
