I want to make a smokenator and have some 4mm or .1575"sheet aluminium lying around the house. Just wondering if this would be suitable for using in my kettle. I know the actual smokenator is made from stainless and i've read other posts about sheet metal being used. But what about aluminium?

Can't see why it wouldn't work as good, if not better, as long as it's designed such that airflow is sufficient to allow air and heat circulation around the entire kettle.

It may not hold up as well over time like stainless would, but I dont see why it wouldnt work. I think the melting point is around 1200 degrees F. Arent the new charcoal baskets Weber uses also alumninum? Don't forget aluminum is used in very hot temps all the time. Many cooking utensils are made of aluminum, and we also use aluminum foil to wrap some of our meats on the grill...like ribs!

Will work Perfect...I have a smaller ring for my 22" WSM thats made of aluminium. Read more Here! (Scroll down half the page)

Still works wonders.
