I just got back from a local joint that grills their steaks on a wood burning grill. The almond wood was just amazing how it impacted the NY strip but didn't over power it at all. It reminds me of oak that I had at another local Que joint.

Has anyone else experimented with grilling steaks or smoking meats with almond specifically since it grows like grass around here.

I got a shipment of almond from a buddy in CA.
Not enough to use as a fuel source to grill over, but I use it as a smoke wood on the kettle. It's a really nice light smoke.
Typically, any nut or fruit wood is good for cooking.

I've cooked several times directly over lit apple wood chunks, and I've been very pleased with the results. I've done rib-eye steaks, chicken, and brats.

Sorry, I know the question here is about almond wood, but I just wanted to input my experience with apple wood. I would, however, LOVE to get my hands on almond wood! I'll definately look for some online and will order some next spring...
