I've had a natural gas Spirit for 5+ years. The temp gauge went out recently (pegged it out, and it never returned), so I was thinking about whether it was time to get a new gasser, maybe upgrade to the Genesis. The G is bigger than I need, but I don't love my front to rear burner placement on the Spirit.
So I took the Spirit apart this morning. All the burners, flavor bars, grills, etc. were in great shape. Could not justify an upgrade.
I did have to replace the drip tray holder a year or so ago; it rusted out and broke off. I got a universal temp gauge at Lowes today.
Guess I'll have the old Spirit for a while longer. Though frankly I don't use it nearly as much since I got a OTG and WSM.
I have the side burner and have NEVER used it. I think of it as an emergency cooktop in case of power outage. Maybe I'll try lighting my chimney starter with it, as some have mentioned.
