I have been reading on how to barbecue spare ribs, beef brisket, pork butt and have had good results using a weber kettle and mostly a brinkman electric smoker. By using the electric smoker I get no smoke taste. How and would my barbecue taste and be better if I purchased a WSM? I here guys say how good they are and was wondering how big a difference it would make.

I'm not familiar with electric smokers...do you use wood chips...have a nice smokey environment?

WSM makes the best BBQ I have ever had...mine particularly improved when I switched to lump and got a variety of woods to use for different cuts, although I am always partial to a hickory/apple mix.

Why does it work so well???....Temperature stability (I use the clay saucer mod) - but you should get that in the electric...nice smokey environment with the flavor combo of good lump and good wood (may not get that in the electric).

It is night and day. I started with an electric smoker, did two pork butt cooks, and bought a wsm because I wasn't happy with the flavor. With the WSM, you get real bbq, with bark, smoke, beaitful smoke rings, the whole deal. Not even kidding, if you put your two meats side by side, from the electric and the WSM, it would be like you did two completely different things, because basically you did, but they are both called "smoking." I haven't touched the electric in the two years since I bought my WSM. I may do some fish on it, as it does a real nice job, but otherwise, anything that has/had hoooves or feathers goes in the WSM.

My definitions -
Barbecue - cooking meat at meet at low temperature for long(er) times at 225-250 degrees
Smoking - cooking food while exposing it to smoke from burning or smoldering materials(usually wood).

Unless you use some wood chips or chunks in the electric smoker, you aren't going to get the smoke taste. Have you tried putting chunks on top of the lava rocks? Another option is to put chips in a smoker box and put that on the lava rocks. This could get you the smoke flavor you are looking for and not need a WSM(heaven forbid

Just by this portion of your post, I'd have to say get a WSM! If you aren't as excited about the results of your smoker, and by your quote it sounds like you aren't...that means you need one.
