Add thermometer to Weber Q1000. Recommendations please.

I see this has been discussed here and have seen a few YouTube videos on installing one on the Q1000. My hope is to get a few updated suggestions for a not-terribly-expensive thermometer to mount through the lid. I have been spoiled over the years with my Silver B (have had it since new in 2000). I use a Thermapen to check for doneness but tonight was the first time I tried my unused Q and while I guessed right as to when it was ready, I'm using little green bottles (I've got like 20 for a couple other propane devices) and hate to waste the little fuel they contain. Amazon would be the preferred market place. Appreciate any ideas. I've got a drill and know how to use it. ;)

Just to finish this thread out, seeing as though it's still here, I installed a Weber thermometer today and all seems good. Even though I measured twice and had what seemed to be the exactly correct spot ( I even outlined the thermometer in pencil to visually be sure), I still managed to get it off center by about 3/16" to 1/4". It works though. ;)

Just finished grilling a couple Kirkland grassfed burgers and that thermometer is great to signal: "The grill's ready! You can throw the meat on now." I temp everything with my Thermapen.

I was going to add a thermometer to a Q200 so what did u guys come up with? I was thinking about just drilling a hole and installing a Spirit thermometer and beauty ring.

My Q2xx had one. But I used to have a Q100 before this one and I added one to that grill. I think it was a Charbroil brand and I got it at the local walmart off the shelf. It was similar to the amazon one that I linked above.

Tonight was a first for me. Decided to try pork loin chops on the Q1000. Just a wee bit over cooked (I left them on until 145 but didn't think of the rest time). Still juicy, flavorful and half the price (or less) than most beef cuts I buy! I am soooo glad I installed the thermometer in the lid as I can get the grill preheated just right. I use a Thermapen One to temp the meats. Seasoning is my usual evoo and SPG.

Dang I just dropped off the Q to my buddy today with no therm installed. Heck I found it for him.......picked it up for him.......tested it for him......supplied him with cart, cover, utensils, and propane. And delivered it to him! So he can install his own therm :) How about a pic of yours...

I don't think you messed up on the temps at all. 145 off the grill is fine. Those look grate. I have been eating more pork lately as well since it is getting tough to even afford Sirloin any longer.

145 left them just a bit more done than I'd prefer. But it's pork so better safe and all that. Frankly, I was surprised they were so good. Other than bacon and some Mexican pork dishes (carnitas) that I'll order when we go out, I can't remember the last time I cooked pork at home. Lots of protein!

Here you go, Jim. Even though I measured twice, I still got the thermometer just a little off-center. You can see the dangling hose I picked up to replace using 1# bottles with a 20#. That makes using this grill comparable to my old Silver B in a much smaller package. I don't love the GCI camping table I'm using as it's a bit wobbly with the grill on it and have been debating the various carts for these things. What's great about the Q is I can use it on my porch. Can't do that with the Silver B.
