A winter coat for my Genesis Gold?

First winter with my "new" Genesis and I was wondering if anyone out there does anything to try to retain heat?

My thought was something fairly simple like maybe just cardboard on the outside. I have this idea to build a box that is a bit larger than the outside of the cover, then add some sort of spacer on the onside to prevent bardboard to grill contact. I think long rivets pushed through from the inside could work.

Got plenty of cardboard, rivets and duct tape. I think I will give it a shot.

Would doing this help? My guess is it would be useful, especially with low temp smoking.

Would like to hear from anyone that has tried it.

I just cooked. It’s 25 in Michigan got to temp no problem. The older gennys hold heat so well

Yah, it might take a touch more gas to reach the temps you want, but I don't think I would try to surround my cook box with cardboard or any flammable material when actually grilling. That seems to me a candidate for a Darwin Award.

Ha!!!!

No worries, I won't be doing close to anything else flammable.

I was wondering does it take that much extra gas to hold a temp in the cold?

It seems to me that wind is more of a factor than cold. At least at thermometer level. I don't know if it makes as much difference at grate level.
I think a temporary wind block would help more than an insulating blanket.
