A question on Weber nomenclature: is "Kettle: and "One Touch Gold" the same thing?

I see a lot of references to cooking various items on the Kettle. People rave about their Kettles. I own a 22" WSM :wsm22: and a Weber OTG :blackkettle: which I understand has been discontinued and is no longer being sold by Home Depot.

Simple question -- is my OTG a "Kettle" that I see referred to in this forum, or is a Kettle a different model built by Weber? Are the terms "One Touch Gold" and "Kettle" synonymous?

Thanks for the clarification.

All OTGs are kettles, but not all kettles are OTGs.

There are people here more qualified to answer this, but I will get it started.

In general, kettles have two lower vent systems. The "One Touch" system has an integrated ash pan and a lever to sweep the ashes and control the vents. The original design, at one time called a "Bar-B-Kettle" had three circular vents in the bottom made just like the vent in the hood of all kettles.

"Gold", "Silver", "MasterTouch" and other monikers denote other features beyond the lower vents....like built in lid bales, side tables, etc.

For the most part, "Kettle" = all Weber Charcoal grills that are round. This would exclude the Weber Go Anywhere which is rectangular.

Dave:

That's pretty much the way I understood it too. If it's round and shaped like a kettle then it is probably okay to call it one.:)
