A little public safety notice

So my Smokefire, I’ve had since 10/21. Love it. It’s been through some moves and at three different houses. And has taken a trip a time or two to my moms house. So, in the bed of the pickup 5-6 times.

Yesterday I got to rearranging my grills and cleaning the area up. And noticed a leg wobble. Well, all four legs, both bolts were loose, and I was missing the right front top bolt! Well dang.

Anyways, if yours has been rolled or moved, I’d check. Would hate for myself or anyone to have a leg pop out and drop that big beautiful ba****d!

I move mine in and out of the garage for every cook. I have to check those bolts periodically and they do loosen up even with the short trip from the garage. I plan to fabricate a bottom shelf and see if that helps with the situation.

I got to thinking about why it has those threaded inserts in bottom of legs. Seems like a future shelf may have been planned. I may have to make myself one

There is another company that makes a lower shelf for the Smokefire. It utilizes the factory lower leg holes.

Also judging from the photos that lower shelf would help stabilize stresses on the legs. I know on my Big Z there is no lower shelf but there are 2 "panels" that go between the legs. I think more to stabilize than decorate. Though they look nice

That’s a nice shelf but I like a lip on the edge instead of a flat surface. I added the bottom shell to my Camp Chef, for stability, but put it on upside down because that gave me a lip.

I imagine I’ll just bend up a gray, drill some holes and call it good. For (hopefully) FAR less than $140!
