$50 SS Performer CL find

Mac,

Yeah, don't see anyway for the bowl to work. I hate that it is wasted like that. A friend told me the wet sand and ash may have formed a chemical reaction that ate through the bottom. Not that I would ever put sand in my grill....

Rather than spending money on a lid, bowl, grates and ash system, I think I am going to use the frame for the WSM rather than move the other one over. That money can go to a 22.5 WSM, which I really need/want. The table is about 4 inches lower on the SS than my '10. I still may need a bracket to drop the WSM a little bit. I will make that decision whenever I get my hands on the 22 WSM.

I am going to remove the bowl, clean up and fix the frame, add a SS tray/shelf to the bottom section and have it waiting. I doubt I will drill through the bowl on the WSM for the touch N go, but I may try to have a burner setup on the side somewhere to sit a chimney for added convenience.

Now to find something to do with a rusted out bottom bowl!

Hi Josh, Not sure whether you have found this or not but I also picked up a used performer (04 DH)from CL and found there was a sticker on the bottom side of the SS table near the tank, this gave me the date code and serial number. I registered it with Weber. Once I started cleaning the bowl I found the same thing as your pic's, the bowl was rusted out. After doing some research I found that Weber has a 10 year warranty on the bowl for rust through. I told them the color and a week later I had a new bowl. Sorry if this is a repeat from someone. Just wanted to let you know.
Rob

Yes it is, atleast going by the code (DH). I couldn't believe when I found it was still under the warranty. New bowl in a week. I also ordered some of the new parts and the grill looks great now.

I think they made the Stainless Performers until 05' then they went to the Thermoplastic table.

You will have to say you bought it new from a store for them to warranty it. The ash catcher and one touch blades should also be warrantied but you will need to pay for the ash catcher bowl.

Who knows it may be worth a shot....

Yea I thought it was strange but they never asked me. I just registered it with them and got talking about the rust and the warranty.

I have been meaning to call Weber all week but haven't had time at work. I just sent them an email, I will let you know how it goes.

After about 5 emails back and forth with Weber CS, they now want pictures. Not a problem for the bowl & lid, but since the ash sweeper and catcher are gone, not sure about those.

Just tell them the ash catcher fell off due to the rust out. Sometimes they won't question it. That is usually why I call directly. If you are nice to them they usually help out without any extra questions. I would try calling and not mention the email.

I took a picture of the rusted area where the handle was and a picture of the rusted center part of the bowl and emailed them back Friday evening. 10 minutes later had an email from Weber saying a new bowl, lid holder, lid, and sweeper would be at my home in 7-10 business days.

Everyone always talks about how great Weber CS is and how they stand behind their product. This was my first dealings with them and worked out great.

If all I have to put in it is an ash catcher assembly and a grate, I am pretty happy.

Calling direct is the ticket. When my WSM lid was damaged I called them and they wanted pictures. Then I called back the next day got a sweet older gal, she said "well it's under warranty, the part is in stock, you will have it in 3 days." She didn't even ask how it was damaged. Having your cookers registered makes a difference too, in my opinion. When they pull up your file and see you have multiple Webers they usually try their best to have you hang up a happy customer. Just my two cents. Random side note: A couple weeks ago I needed a replacement thermometer and a couple misc. items for my Master Touch. I asked what the price was and he said $12. I waited a beat, acted stunned and called him a pirate. We both had a laugh and he said since I was a loyal customer he would waive shipping on this order. It's the little things sometimes, and they continue to impress me as a company. Sorry to ramble on.

I was waiting till after the holidays to take this project on, but now we have the Playoffs so I am not sure how fast I will work on this.

So far got the new bowl, lid, lid holder, & sweeper free from Weber.

Picked up an ash catcher ring & bowl from a 3rd party site for $30. It snapped right onto the new bowl from weber since it had the slots for the tabs. Me being a man, didn't read the directions on the ash sweeper, initial install was backwards (installed the H bolt backwards), learned something there.

Charcoal grate & casters from amazon. Decided to go for the weber gourmet system for the cooking grate. WOW is that thing heavy. Didn't order the griddle or wok yet, got a birthday coming up and made the job easy for my wife.

I am going to take the entire thing apart and put a fresh coat of black on the frame. The bottom rack is missing, so I am having a my brother in laws family's metal shop make me a drop in stainless steel tray to match the top.

The only thing I did not order was the thermometer. Does anyone have any ideas for an accurate replacement that fits in this slot ? If not I will go for the weber, just looking for something that may be more reliable and accurate.

I will attempt to take pictures along the rebuild.
