3D Printing vs SSP: Shelf v2 - SS Shelf

Previously, I designed and printed these SSP Frame Rail Caps and this Shelf. They fit and work well enough. The corners are kind of janky where the shelf overlaps the frame rail caps.

I really wanted a SS shelf, and rather than have someone custom make one for big $, I found this SS Grate and redesigned the Frame Rail caps to support this. I needed 1.5 of these grates, you could make 2 shelves with 3 of these grates.

I think this turned out much nicer than the fully 3D printed one.

That's a good looking solution for bottom shelf. No longer have to worry about rust.

BTW, love the lime green kettle too -- one of my favs.

Hopefully no rust on the SS shelf (I don’t know the grade, but it is not magnetic) or on the lower frame rails that are basically completely covered.

Lime green is my favorite.

This is my daily driver. I built it from scratch with new replacement parts when they were available. Everything was new, OEM or better, except these parts that were not available at the time: Charcoal bin, Tank hanger, Control panel. I did need to custom fabricate the frame rails, they are powder coated and indistinguishable from OEM and a perfect match to the OEM frame members (not that you can see them now that they are encased in plastic…) Everything that can be stainless is, hardware and axle.

That said, it’s now just a 10yo grill like any other. I do have a little surface rust here and there in the regular locations now. Maybe this spring I’ll make the effort to stop this.
