330 side burner useless?

i have recently stepped into the world of weber grilling,very nice grill.i bought a 330 with the side burner and i am not impressed with the amount of heat this puts out,its nearly useless.i have tried to boil water for salt potatoes twice and both times i had to revert to my old fiesta grill side burner,this morning i tried to do scrambled eggs and it took 20 min.
is there something wrong or is that the way it is?
it seems to have a decent sized flame but the 12000 btu rating seems way off.
 
I agree with Justin. The side burner on my 330 is more powerful than my (fairly capable) inside stovetop. Boiling water is not a problem.
 
I would check my propane tank. Sometimes I have to "burp" mine. I don't know what causes it, but sometimes the flame gust goes to about half power. When that happens, I take the hose off of the tank and re-attach it. Then it works like a charm. I have a 320 and the side burner is quite capable. Look for a problem if burping it doesn't work.
 
The only complaint I hav efor the side burner on my Genesis is that it is too hot even. On it's lowest setting. I agree at something is wrong.

The only time this happens to me is if I have one or more burner knobs turned on before I open the valve at the tank. I've recently learned this will kick in the regulator and give you weak output. Not sure if this is the same problem you're describing, though.
 
I use my EP-320 side burner, or at least my mother in law does. She uses it to fry stuff to keep the smell out of the house, she sautes fish for again smell. She also makes large pots of a spanish soup called sancocho. The side burner gets hotter then my electric stove. Its provides more then enough juice. You probably have a bad side burner. Call wrber cs and get it fixed or replaced.
