30 people, how much butt?

I'm hosting a party this weekend. Around 30 people, and pulled pork is the headliner. How much fresh butt should I buy (assume boneless) for this size of crowd?

Also, I'm planning on throwing the butts on at 9pm the Friday night, taking them off "when they're done" sometime the next morning. Assuming it's around 10-11AM, they'll hold warm wrapped in foil, towel and in a cooler until 2 in the afternoon?

Thanks everyone, in advance.

Figure 50% yield from a raw butt, so an 8lb butt will make 16-4oz sandwiches. So depending on the crowd and what other meat you are serving, technically 2-8lb butts would be enough. With that said, I would cook 3 butts for extra or larger serving portions, say 6oz per sandwich.

Thanks Larry. I'll go with three butts then, or an equivalent amount in pounds. If I have leftovers, I'll figure out a use for that.

Once people taste your BBQ I don't think you'll hav a problem with leftovers. But if you do, leftover pulled pork is easy to figur out different things to do with...pulled pork nachos, burritos, quesadillas, BBQ Spaghetti, salads, egg rolls, omelets or even a pulled pork sandwich if all else fails!!

I usually figue about 1 butt per 9-10 people and have been pretty damn close with this estimation so far. Usually there are lots of leftovers. I just did a cook for 28, I did two butts, 2 turkeys, and a couple sides and they had way more leftovers than I figured they would.

And don't forget the Chili Rainbow recipe that I posted at this website a couple of years ago that's listed here: http://tvwbb.infopop.cc/eve/fo...880001805#2880001805!
