22" WSM right out of the box ?

Ill be picking a 22" up tomorrow. Id like to try it out Sunday , but I wont have time for some basic mods ( gasket kit ,grommet, door etc), How well do they work right out of the box . Do they need to burn off any manufacturing oil before using? Any preference for lump or briquettes? I got a million questions :confused:
 
Ask away Mike. There are so many people with so much knowledge that they are willing to share.

Don't worry about the mods. It is fine right out of the box and don't need to burn off anything, though you will find that the smoker will run a little hotter in the beginning but nothing to worry about.

I mostly use kingsford briquette, especially if I have a long smoke at 225-250. If I want to go hot 350+ for up to 4-5 hours i sometimes use lump and find it easier to hit the high temps.
