I've had this idea for about a year and finally put some action behind it. I have an EZ Que rotisserie that I love. The ring is perfect for using as a way to raise the grill surface. Using some screws, washers, a pizza pan and some bricks I DIY'd myself a 22" WSM (sorta).
if you flip the charcoal grate the wsm ring fits perfectly.
I used a $3 16" pizza pan from walmart as the heat shield. I ended up laying the bricks on their side to allow more room between the pan and the top grate.
The one problem is I would have to take the whole thing apart to add more wood so I loaded it up with apple chunks and layers of oak chips.
Ribs on!
It's hard to tell but it settled in at 225 before the ribs were added and is now at 250.
On a side note when I purchased the pizza pan and hardware the dude checking me out asked if I was using this stuff for a bird feeder project I said no and explained what I was doing. He proceeded to tell me that the only way to smoke bbq is at a temp no higher than 145 but should really be closer to 125. I prayed for his bbq soul last night.
The Ribs turned out fantastic! I love this mod!
Thanks for looking!
