Hello guys just picked a new 22.5 otg was wondering what you guys to to put a thermo in the lid and where is the best place for it. Thanks Ken

I would recommend getting a thermometer from weber and place it on the dome just like the later model Performer, the ealier model performer has it in the handle.

Thanks Richard how would you drill the top so as not to chip it. I'll check out the thermo's on weber's site. Also if you know how tall are the rotissere rings from weber

i use remote units. i use one to check the grate temp and another to check the meat temp. many times i just don't bother. you will get the feel for things as you get more experiance.

I use a 6" turkey fryer therm on my OTG and the WSM. It's removable and clips into the top vent. Depth is adjustable and you can pick it up at most stores for about $8.00.

I have a performer and definitely like the temp gauge in the lid. I do not use it as an exact measure but rather as a general ball park measure of the temp. As long as the temp is in the right range I simply monitor the stuff on the grill and enjoy.

Ken, I can't say how successful this method might be, but if you decide to drill, you may wish to review this site's instructions.

There are very good instructions for installing a thermo in the lid listed in the WSM Mods forum on this site. I did this to my WSM and it worked great.
